The City of Washington, Iowa has dealt with significant corrosion issues in its wells, leading them to look at alternatives to standard epoxy-coated column pipe. In the past, Peerless installed stainless steel pipe with added cathodic protection on one of the City’s wells. Two of Washington’s three active wells, however, use Boreline FlexiRiser hose instead of standard drop pipe. The original plan for Well #7 was to pull the pump and reinstall the system with a new submersible motor. When the pump was removed in early April, the crew found additional wear in the bowl assembly, and the pump is now being rebuilt for reinstallation. Due to the Boreline hose setup, the crew used heavy-duty clamps in place of standard elevators and staged the hose across a trailer bed during removal. Overall, the removal of the well pump was very efficient and MWP now has the experience and equipment to service 6-8” pumps installed with Boreline drop hose.
